In the gap between facts and myths lie both misunderstandings and simplifications.
This evening seminar will discuss some of the myths related to Svalbard and geopolitics, and try to highlight the facts.
In addition, we will take a closer look at the local processes taking place on the archipelago, and how geopolitics plays into these.
Senior researcher Andreas Østhagen from Fridtjof Nansen's Institute and PhD scholar Tiril Vold Hansen from Nord University will present and discuss their work and views related to Svalbard and geopolitics. Afterwards, the head of Longyearbyen local council Terje Aunevik will comment and reflect on these issues.
The event is a cooperation between The Fridtjof Nansen Institute, Oslo New University College and Svalbard Museum.
In Lassegrotta, Svalbard Museum: Lecture, coffee break and q&a - free entrance.
