Friday 8 September, 6pm
Bernt Hagtvet is a Norwegian political scientist, professor emeritus at the University of Oslo. Among his fields of expertise is political theory, democracy, human rights and genocide.
Because of the dramatic changes in the local democracy, we’ve invited Hagtvet to bring us back to the fundamentals of democratic theory with his lecture Why democracy? What does the changes say about our local democracy? Can we still call our political system a democracy? If not, what should we call it? The lecture is based on general theory and not specific to Longyearbyen, but Hagtvet will be available for questions at the end of the event.
The lecture will be held in English at Svalbard Museum Friday September 8, 6 PM. This event is in collaboration with Longyearbyen litteraturfestival and with support of Fritt Ord.
