The exhibition on Bjørnøya
On Friday the 20th of September 2019 an historical exhibition opened in the old meteorological station on Bjørnøya. The project was led by Herdis Lien from Svalbard museum and Jon Kolsum from the weather service in Northern-Norway.
The dream of establishing an exhibition in the old meteorological station had existed for a long time, and the crew started collecting artifacts already in the 1970s. The building has been restored to appear as it did in the 1960s.
The exhibition covers the history from Barentsz discovery in 1596, and up until today.
Architects from LPO, and glazier Andre Jenssen has contributed to the exhibition's physical form. The exhibition is funded by the governor of Svalbard and Svalbard environmental fund.
